I'm a pediatrics resident in Albuquerque. Exactly one year ago, I was in Gallup doing a one-month rotation with the pediatricians at the IHS hospital. Because of that experience working at the edge of the Navajo reservation, I was COMPLETELY RIVETED by this series of articles (published in the LA Times) on the past, present, and future of uranium mining on the Rez.
According to your preface to the 2006 book, it's too late to submit, but I hope at least that you read this amazing series of articles. Living for a month in Gallup was an amazing experience.

Hi Julie,
Yes, I did see that article--a very good one. I don't know if it will be in the final selection of articles, but I will probably include it in the "Other Notable" articles list at the back of the book.
Gallup is a fascinating small town, isn't it? There's really no other place like it.
